Stephanie Kelton

Senior economic advisor to Bernie Sanders and former chief economist on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee

Professor Stephanie Kelton is currently the Visiting Harcourt Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Adelaide. She is a professor of economics and public policy at Stony Brook University, New York. She is a leading expert on Modern Monetary Theory and a former Chief Economist on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee (Democratic staff). Stephanie is currently serving as senior economic adviser to Bernie Sanders. She has been named by POLITICO as one of the 50 people most influencing the policy debate in America, and described by Dr Steven Hail of the University of Adelaide as “one of the most important progressive economists in the world today”.

Professor Kelton advises policymakers and consults with investment banks, and portfolio managers across the globe. She is a regular commentator on radio and broadcast television, in the USA and internationally. Her highly-anticipated book, The Deficit Myth, will be published June 9, 2020.

Stephanie will be in Adelaide during January 2020, and will deliver her official professorial Harcourt lecture at the University during the week following this conference.
